How to Clean Your Pool Cartridge Filter

To enjoy a better pool you have to keep it clean on a regular basis. Other wise your pool will be no more a pleasant place. The water may turns cloudy, which is bad for health. To clear the cloudiness of pool water you have to ensure proper maintenance of your pool filter.

In this post, we will let you know about, how to clean your pool filter cartridges for the optimal use of your filter and enjoyment of your pool.

The question is, when do you change your filter cartridges? It’s answer is simple, when the pressure gauge on your filter tank reaches 8-10 psi above the pressure recorded when a new cartridge is installed or when there’s a noticeable decrease in the pressure coming from your return jets, it’s the high time to clean your cartridge. Let’s go into the step by step process:

The first step before performing any maintenance on your pool filter is to make sure that you cut the power to the pump in the filter. You can do that from the circuit board.

Now the power is cut the next step is to release the pressure from the system by opening the pressure relief valve. Drain the water from the filter. Now that the pressure is released and the water is drained it is time to open up the filter housing. Start by loosening the clamp spring assembly on the tank clamp. Remove the clamp and the filter lid . Then remove the cartridge manifold and carefully remove the dirty cartridges.

After removing the dirty cartridges, the first thing that we are going to do is apply a citrus base cleaner called pure and clean. You’re going to saturate the media with the solution and this is going to help loosen up the oils and calcium and debris collected on your filter. After applying you let this sit for about fifteen minutes.

Now you’re ready to clean your filter taking a garden hose and a spray nozzle. You’re going to spray a stream of water at about a 45 degrees angle on the cartridge.

Getting in between the pleat as much as possible, removing the dirt and the oil and the debris. It’s important not to use a pressure washer or any kind sort of harsh brush as you’ll damage  the media and possibly break the bands. The bands are important to stay intact as  they provide a uniform spacing between the pleats giving you the best filtration . You’ll work at about a 45 degree angle moving from top to bottom and after you’ve done one  section rotate and repeat the process .

You want to do this away to do this away from the pool or near a drain . Somewhere where the discharged water is going to drain away from the pool.

There are a variety of accessories that you can use to help your job, make it easier and to clean the filters more efficiently.Such a helpful equipement is aqua comb which attatches to your garden hose just as your nozzle would and it actually distributes the water across the comb. Thus you can clean your pool filter.

After that you can clean the basin of the filter as well. Your pool cartridges is ready for re use. One last thing, cleaning pool filter is not enough to maintain a safe pool, you should clean the pool with an efficient pool cleaner for the optimal result. You can get them in here.
